Electrical Estimating starts with a database of products. Each product is assigned a Man-Hour (Time to install) and a price. As you enter the items into your estimate, Man-Hours and Material cost will start to tally. This is the basic theory of estimating.
Knowing what and how to bring these items into the estimate is the art of estimating. Many people start out using pen and paper. They will manually write out the material they will need and then usually from a book they will assign each product a Man-Hour. Next they will assign a price to each piece of material and eventually extend the list.
The next step is usually moving to Excel and start automating your sheet with formulas. You would enter a quantity of receptacles for and the associated products would auto tally. This takes some time to set up but beats pen and paper any day.
At some point you move to an electrical estimating software. This is truly a game changer. Now you are fully automated and have everything you need to track the project after you win it.
This will drastically speed up the time you spend estimating and make you more accurate.
